Accessibility Statement

Accessibility Statement

Hijaz College is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.

We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website and in doing so adhere to many of the available standards and guidelines.

Web Accessibility Initiative

This website endeavours to conform to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities. Conformance with these guidelines will help make the web more user friendly for all people. We are continually making improvements to meet these guidelines, and our website has been designed with the following accessibility guidelines in mind:

  • Our pages are designed so that they can be viewed at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.
  • Page structure is conveyed using header elements.
  • Text can be increased or decreased in size by using the view option in your browser.
  • A stylesheet is used on our website and relative font sizes on all text with the exception of graphical text.
  • Images that convey important information have alternative text.
  • Where an image is used for a decorative purpose the alternative text will be left blank.
  • A site map is available to provide information about the layout of the website.

Compliance Standards

All pages on this site aim to validate as XHTML and use CSS 2.1 for visual presentation. Use of tables for non-tabular information is kept to a minimum. This may cause older browsers (e.g. Netscape 4.x) which do not understand standards-compliant code to display pages in a very basic way. However, the pages should still be usable. Wherever possible, we would recommend upgrading your browser to the latest version number to take full advantage of this site's advanced presentational features.

This site has been built using code compliant with W3C standards for XHTML and CSS. The site displays correctly in current browsers and using standards compliant XHTML/CSS code means any future browsers will also display it correctly.

Downloading pdf documents

To read PDF documents with a screen reader please link to the Access Adobe website which provides useful tools and resources. Adobe also has a free online conversion tool for pdf

Browser Compatibility

This site has been designed to be accessible to as many web browsers as possible. It will not look the same in every browser but the content should be available and accessible in all browsers. Please use the facilities within your browser to present the pages in the best way for you. Most browsers will allow you to alter font size and you may also be able to make other changes.

Printing

If you choose to print a page of content you will notice that the site navigation bar and menu items are not included in the printout. This is a deliberate feature.

Access Keys

We don't use access keys. To explain why not, we recommend that you read Nomensa's article.

Exceptions

Whilst Hijaz College strives to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website. We are continually seeking out solutions that will bring all areas of the site up to the same level of overall accessibility. In the meantime should you experience any difficulty in accessing the Hijaz College website, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
